Nature and Scope of Work
The Accounting Lead Hand oversees the Accounts Payable function and provides leadership to the accounting team. This role ensures accurate and timely processing of payables, supervises staff, meets regulatory makers and supports financial reporting and compliance.
Reporting Relationships:
Reports to: General Manager
Immediate Subordinates: Accounting Clerk – Accounts Receivable
Required Education, Knowledge, and Experience:
Required:
- Accounting/bookkeeping certificate or higher
- A minimum of 8 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience with 3 years of supervisory experience
- Strong knowledge of AP processes, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Proficient in Sage 50
- Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
Preferred:
- Post secondary in Accounting Finance or Business Administration
- Diploma or Certificate in Accounting
Illustrative Examples of Work:
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff handling AR duties.
- Process vendor invoices and maintain AP records.
- Prepare and issue cheques and electronic payments.
- Reconcile Bank and Vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
- Track and report on insurance, utilities, and other recurring costs.
- Maintain filing systems for purchase orders, invoices, and payment records.
- Assist with petty cash reconciliations and expense reporting.
- Deliver payroll services, GST remittances, perform reconciliations, administer pensions and benefits, and complete data entry tasks as needed, while ensuring accurate maintenance of employee records.
- Handle incoming mail related to AP and maintain supply inventory.
- Maintain input for software and update budget trackers.
- Respond to vendor inquiries professionally and promptly
- Prepare monthly AP reports and financial statements and assist with year-end financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.
- Assist in budget preparation and provide monthly updates to management.
- Conduct internal audits related to AP and cash handling.
- Liaise with other departments and external stakeholders for AP-related issues.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure accuracy in all financial transactions.
- Assist in the development of departmental policies and procedures.
- Coordinate effective investment and redemption of funds (if applicable to AP role).
- Monitor investment performance through monthly reports (if relevant).
- Assist in the annual review of fee-for-service programs.
- Maintain open and professional communications with governmental agencies, other departments, and the public.
- Prepare professional written correspondence as required.
- Perform research, analysis, and provide recommendations as needed.
- Performs other duties as necessary to fulfill the requirements of the role

- Arena Attendantpart-time
The City of Salmon Arm is accepting applications for a PT Arena Attendant at the SASCU Recreation Centre. Reporting to the Manager of Parks and Roads, with operational reporting to the Operations Manager of Salmon Arm Recreation. The Arena Attendant is responsible for the installation and resurfacing of ice at the arena, including the operation and maintenance of equipment such as the refrigeration plant and ice resurfacer. This position also provides custodial service and minor repairs and maintenance for the building’s washrooms, dressing rooms, etc., During the off-season, this position performs a variety of duties mostly in the Parks and Recreation Division of Public Works as a Labourer.
Required Knowledge, Ability and Skill:
- Refrigeration Operators Certificate or equivalent
- Arena Icemaker course
- WHIMIS Training
- BC Drivers License, Class 5.
- Ability to perform minor mechanical repairs.
- Ability to monitor and maintain an ice refrigeration plant
- A minimum of 2 years previous experience in the maintenance and operation of an ice arena.

- Casual Recreation Assistantpart-time
The City of Salmon Arm is accepting applications for a Casual Recreation Assistant at the SASCU Recreation Centre. Reporting to the Manager of Parks and Roads, with operational reporting to the Operations Manager of Salmon Arm Recreation, this position assists in providing recreation programs, courses and special events to cover some upcoming needs with the recreation team. Some duties include:
- planning and delivery of program activities for children, youth and adult;
- supervision of participants;
- setup and take down of program space;
- plan and deliver spring/summer camps
- teaching youth leadership courses ie: Red Cross Babysitting course, Safe at Home Alone.

Remuneration for this position is in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement, $23.77/hr plus 14% in lieu of benefits. This is a casual position with varying hours.

- Maintenance Custodianpart-time

The Part time Building Maintenance Custodian performs minor maintenance and cleaning tasks in the Recreation Facilities. - Board of Directorspart-time
The Shuswap Recreation Society is seeking Citizens at Large to join our Volunteer Board of Directors for a term of up to three (3) year commencing as early as August 23, 2022. The Society is looking for individuals with interest in our community recreation programming and facilities.
The Board acts as an oversight and advisory body to manage and operate City of Salmon Arm recreation facilities and programs.
The current Board will select and appoint new Board members.
